Our Curriculum Vision

“At Eastlea Community School we provide our students with opportunities to thrive and flourish both academically and personally”.

To enable all students to achieve, our curriculum is underpinned by the following principles: 

• Ambitious – for all of our students, regardless of their starting points 
• Sequenced / Spiral – we follow a spiral curriculum that supports retrieval practice and spaced learning 
• Literacy – our curriculum develops literacy skills and broadens vocabulary 
• Cultural Capital – our curriculum develops strong cultural capital by presenting students with as many experiences and opportunities as possible

Our curriculum offer is further enhanced through our outstanding facilities: all students have access to our performing arts complex, theatre, dance studio, sports hall and computer suite.

Personal, Social and Health Education

At Eastlea we are committed to promoting  the importance of inclusivity, community and safety in our school and this is reflected in our curriculum. Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) is now built into our curriculum time and students are taught by specialist teachers. Within PSHE our students learn about mental health and well being, physical health, how to stay safe, celebrate diversity and understand what it means to be a young person living in Newham today. 

Key Stage 3 – Years 7, 8 and 9

KS3 is a three year pathway which we believe enables our students to experience new opportunities, and provides a foundation for success at KS4 and life beyond school.  At Eastlea Community School, we are fortunate enough to have a theatre, a purpose built art studio, dance studio, music studios, production equipment and outstanding spaces for PE including a vast playing field. These facilities allow us to offer new opportunities in: music, dance, drama, technology, PE and art.  We believe that a three year KS3 is critical in providing a strong basis of cultural capital and language development to support our students in their school career and beyond.  

We follow a 5 period a day timetable. Each period is one hour long.  The graphic below provides an overview of our KS3 Curriculum.

Key Stage 4 – Years 10 and 11

KS4 is an inclusive and challenging two year pathway. We offer academic choices (GCSE) and more practical options. Our SEND students are fully involved in school life and are supported through our supportive curriculum.

Our curriculum offers challenges through various opportunities through GCSE in languages, the triple science GCSE, statistics and further maths. All students from Year 9 onwards work towards an additional qualification in PE.  Further opportunities are offered through initiatives such as the Brilliant Club.
