Welcome to Eastlea

Eastlea Community School

Discover Eastlea Community School in Newham, a co-educational secondary school where students thrive academically and personally in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Leadership at Eastlea

Sarah Morgan, Executive Headteacher

Welcome to Eastlea Community School.  Over the past five years our school has made significant strides and was judged Good in all areas in our most recent inspection.  We are deeply proud of what our staff, students, families, and the wider community have achieved together. Our ambition is clear: every student, regardless of background, should access a broad, well-sequenced curriculum, feel safe and respected, and be equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive.

Eastlea is recognised as a safe, kind and welcoming school, where equality, respect and tolerance lie at the heart of what we do.  In our recent inspection the inspectors not only recognised the good quality of education but also noted the high ambitions we have for our students; the broad curriculum; the calm learning environment, the comprehensive programme of personal development opportunities for our students; our targeted support for reading; the many opportunities we provide for our children to develop their talents and interests and the many educational visits our children experience to a range of museums, theatres and field trips.

Together, with the support and vision of the Newham Community Learning Trust, we look forward to continuing to grow, innovate, and ensure that each student feels valued, challenged, and supported at every step.

Jubair Ahmed, Head of School

It is a privilege to serve as Head of School at Eastlea Community School. I am passionate about inclusive education and firmly believe that every student should have the opportunity to thrive and fulfil their potential. My own journey has been shaped by education and the support of family, friends, and community, and I am proud to see our strong partnership between home and school helping our young people flourish.

The learning that happens in our classrooms is the heartbeat of Eastlea, complemented by a broad curriculum and rich co-curricular opportunities that nurture the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Our values are woven into the fabric of school life, shaping kind, confident, and responsible students. I am committed to ensuring every student feels valued, challenged, and supported at every step of their school journey, so they leave Eastlea prepared to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Curriculum and Enrichment

Students follow a broad and balanced curriculum across Years 7 to 11. In Years 10 and 11, options include GCSEs in English, maths, science, languages, computer science, sociology, drama, music, art, technology, and PE, as well as BTECs in travel and tourism and child development. Additional GCSEs, community language qualifications, and extra support in literacy and numeracy are available where needed.

A wide range of enrichment opportunities enables students to explore music, drama, art, sport, science, and technology. Clubs such as The Curiosity Club, student leadership roles, and the Eastlea Eco Group help develop personal growth, leadership skills, and community involvement.

Pastoral Care and Community

Every year group has a team of tutors, a dedicated Pastoral Manager, and an Achievement Leader to support academic progress and personal development. Strong pastoral care ensures students feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.

Eastlea is part of the Newham Community Learning Trust, alongside Sarah Bonnell, Lister, Rokeby, Selwyn, and Portway, sharing a commitment to high-quality education and excellence across the borough.

Facilities and Opportunities

Our excellent facilities support a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including music, drama, arts, sports, and STEM. Specialist coaching, safe outdoor spaces, and extracurricular clubs help students discover and develop their talents.

Our Promise

We are ambitious for every student and committed to ensuring they achieve their full potential academically, personally, and socially. Eastlea Community School offers a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where every child is encouraged to succeed.
